Brick, in use in England since the 15th century, becaming the predominant material in clay areas in the 17th century with the decline in timber. Historic brick types include sandfaced red stocks, soft red rubber bricks for carving or rubbing, glazed headers, glazed bricks such as Luton Grey and Reading Blue, Staffordshire Blue, yellow Gaults and Fireclays, and mottled London Stocks and Multistocks. Attention to traditional finishing is important, often sandfaced and handmade, as well as size.

W H Collier Ltd manufacture traditional handmade facing bricks and fireplace briquettes. Bricks have been produced on our site at Marks Tey since 1863. We use our own locally dug clay to produce a range of bricks, special shapes and fireplace briquettes.All of our handmade bricks are genuinely "thrown" by hand in the traditional way.
