Wrought Iron and Wrought Ironwork
Wrought Iron has a long history and it is important to select a blacksmith who has the appropriate skills to carry out traditional detailing or have the knowledge to restore existing historic ironwork, which should always be done in consultation with your local conservation officer. Firms listed below vary from those who supply standard designs for gates and railings, to individual blacksmiths producing bespoke forged items to companies with considerable experience in the sensitive conservation of historic wrought ironwork. The National Heritage Ironwork Group ( NHIG ) has been recently set up to promote high standards of conservation but there is no accreditation scheme at this present time.
