Campbell Smith & Co have created and restored fine interiors since 1873. Our decorators are highly skilled in historic decorative finishes such as distempers, flat oil paints and limewash, gilding, stencilling, trompe l’oeil, mural, marbling and graining techniques as well as the restoration of historic interior fabrics. Through our in-house experience, the National Collection for Historic Decoration, and our alliance with Crick Smith University of Lincoln, we undertake thorough analysis, tests and detailed reports on historic decorative finishes. Using this research we can develop new schemes or preserve existing schemes whilst ensuring that any new finishes are fully reversible.
Hare & Humphreys, established in 1987, are conservators specialising in decorating and gilding. They can advise on the causes of decoration deterioration and to write specifications for the conservation or restoration of historic interiors, as well as carry out condition surveys, historic buildings reports and historic paint analysis. Advice is available on appropriate systems for redecoration and a design service for colour schemes, wall coverings, fabrics and specialist artwork, with a team of French polishers, fibrous plasterers, joiners and other historic building craftsmen and conservators.
