Clay Tiles : Handmade
Handmade clay tiles are widespread across England in anywhere there are clay deposits, but are particularly predominant in the South East. Historically Peg Tiles (see our separate section for Clay Tiles : Peg Tiles) were exclusively used until the 1850ís when nib tiles were introduced and gradually dominated the market. Recent years has seen a revival of manufacture. Care should always been used in selection, such as whether the roof should be peg or nib and the geological age and therefore colour of the tile.
